Trevor Donovan Should Play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire

1.  Have you seen him?  (A picture is worth a thousand signs..oh wait, words...a picture is worth a thousand words.)
2.  I'm sorry, what was the question?
3. Yum.  (That IS a reason.  See # 1)

I would like to formally request to the powers that be (Suzanne Collins, Gary Ross, and Billy Ray) to consider Trevor Donovan as the dynamic character of Finnick Odair for Catching Fire.

First, let's take a look at the man in question, shall we?

I am not quite sure what those little muscle ridges are that make a 'V' under his belly button but it is definitely something that Finnick would have because Finnick is buff.

Some might say that Trevor, at age 34 is too old to play Finnick, but I say "Au contraire, mon frère" and here is why.

While it is true that Finnick is 24 years old during Catching Fire let's look at what he has been through, shall we?  As the winner of the 65th Hunger Games and a survivor of the 75th Hunger Games Quarter Quell, Finnick was forced to kill dozens of people.  I don't have any personal experience with this particular topic but there are multitudes of examples in film, literature and history  of what murder does to a person's physical appearance and psychological well-being.

Finnick is also forced into prostitution by President Snow as a way to protect those he loves, including the love of his life, Annie Cresta, who was captured and tortured by the Capitol.  After experiencing all of that in the short span of a decade it is completely plausible that Finnick would have physically and mentally aged by at least ten years his senior making Trevor the exact perfect age to play Finnick.

Secondly, let's discuss Finnick's personality and demeanor.  Genuine and loyal at heart Finnick is also egotistical and smug.

“He looks down at his legs as if noticing his outfit for the first time. Then he whips off his hospital gown, leaving him in just his underwear. "Why? Do you find this" - he strikes a ridiculously provocative pose - "distracting?”  ― Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay  (Inner monologue:  "Oh, I'm distracted alright but I will try to maintain focus.")

Trevor was not only a model for A&F (the rumor mill has it that the process to become an A&F model is very daunting; and not to mention how tiring those photo shoots must be...standing there all hot and sexy and not at all hungry while being able to express and hold any range of emotions...that's gotta be hard work.)  He also played the smug, egotistical, womanizing tennis player "Teddy Montgomery" that eventually comes out of the closet on the new version of 90210.  So you see not only does he have the traits of Finnick in his actor's arsenal but he is also very versatile.

Lastly, let's dissect a few details such as Finnick's background and physical appearance.  Finnick is described as tall, muscular, extremely handsome with golden tan skin, bronzed color hair, and green eyes.  Other than the hair color Trevor has the look nailed.  I have discussed in detail with my stylist at Aveda the issue of making blonde hair more bronze without it being too brassy and she assures me that with the right color of a few essentially placed low lights and the right toner, Trevor could have perfectly dimensional hair to go with his perfectly dimensional body.

Finnick comes from District 4, the fishing district so he is very comfortable in and around water.  He is also very comfortable with his Adonis-esque body.  I think this picture accurately proves that Trevor is capable of such feats.  Anyone that is capable of sitting on a rock, naked, over the ocean while looking sexy and peaceful should not be underestimated.

“Well, don't expect us to be too impressed. We just saw Finnick Odair in his underwear.”
Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay

May the odds be ever in your favor, Trevor.

The pictures (much like the man in them) do not belong to me. It is a miracle I had my wits about me enough to document the links.  Take it or leave it copyright nazis. (See previous post #shrew)

The Hunger Games & Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games
By: Suzanne Collins
5 Stars (But really 10 stars)

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen accidentally becomes a contender in the annual Hunger Games, a grave competition hosted by the Capitol where young boys and girls are pitted against one another in a televised fight to the death.

Have you ever had a book sitting around for weeks, possibly months, just sitting there...collecting dust even, on your desk or table? Then when you finally got around to picking it up and reading it you felt like slapping yourself in the forehead like those old V8 commercials? That's what I felt like when after a full year this book was still sitting on my "to read" shelf I finally picked it up and thought to myself, "I guess it is time to see what all the fuss is about." I am so glad I did because now I know. NOW I KNOW!!!

To say that Katniss accidentally becomes a contender in the games is something of a misuse of words. She volunteers to be in the games to save her 12 year old sister from going. I already like this girl. She hunts (illegally) in the woods for food for her family with her BFF Gale, a boy that is obviously in love with her. After volunteering for the games she finds herself surrounded by her own personal entourage of stylist, mentors, and consultants. When she realizes she is being pitted against several other contestants including an adorable baker's son she is destined to be bonded to, she has to decide how she will play the game in order to survive. While she is seemingly clueless in many ways this girl is strong, independent, and determined. Did I mention I like her? If I had to pick one element of this book to claim as my favorite it would be voice. The voice of the main character/narrator/protagonist Katniss is so strong, likable, and immediately recognizable you are guaranteed to sit for hours turning the pages just as fast as your eyes can read.

Catching Fire: Sequel to The Hunger Games
By: Suzanne Collins
5 Stars (But really 10 also)

By winning the annual Hunger Games, District 12 tributes Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have secured a life of safety and plenty for themselves and their families, but because they won by defying the rules, they unwittingly become the faces of an impending rebellion.

There is another one?? How did I get so lucky? The sequel was just as good as the first book in what I know now will for sure be a trilogy (book 3 coming out in August 2010). I am just as impressed with book two as I was book one. Another page turner I could not put down. What I love about this series reminds me of one of the main reasons I loved the Harry Potter series so much. Each book built upon one another and you don't even see it coming. They layer each other, over lapping in certain areas, exposing secrets in other areas. The story is so richly detailed that I wonder if the author has the entire series planned out and then goes back in and fills in the details and dialogue. It is so mesmerizing to me that as I read book two I would suddenly remember things from book one that seemed so insignificant but now holds a key piece of information. I found myself reading book two and taking mental notes in case I needed to remember a seemingly minute detail later in the future. Of course now I must suffer until August to read book three. WHY??? My only hope is that there will be advanced reader copies at the annual Library convention. Just in case, I plan to spend the next six weeks as if I were in football boot camp or military training so I can be prepared to locate and secure a copy. {insert maniacal laugh}

Read this series and you too will be plotting, planning, and laughing like a maniac. It's THAT good.
